SPRING 2012

Here are descriptions of where Mel will be conducting workshops in the spring of 2012.  For specific information including class availability, class description, registration, tuition, accommodations, etc., please contact the individual workshop organizers listed on the ' 12 Contact Info page.

Mel's 2012 schedule begins in Boone, North Carolina at the end of April where he will be making a return visit to conduct a five-day, indoor workshop for Cheap Joe's Art Stuff.  The town of Boone is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern  North Carolina.  Situated in the breathtaking valley amidst some of the oldest mountains in the world, this scenic area offers country roads, beautiful waterfalls, and wildlife.  Spring brings to Boone trees and flowers in bloom.  The workshop will take place in Cheap Joe's state-of-the-art  studio. It has a covered porch with rocking chairs for some relaxation.  Complimentary coffee, tea, and fresh fruit is offered each day.  True Southern hospitality awaits!

Mel is looking forward to teaching in beautiful Cape May, New Jersey.  He will be conducting a four-day, outdoor on location & studio workshop in mid-May, which is an ideal time of year weatherwise and otherwise (that being the summer vacationers haven't yet arrived!).  Enjoy Cape May's historic streets and hundreds of gingerbread-trimmed Victorian homes with wide front porches that can be seen while taking a leisurely walk or while touring on horse-drawn carriages.  There is much to do...from art galleries and antique shops to the Cape May Bird Observatory and the famous Cape May Lighthouse, which attracts both painters and photographers. Be sure to take a relaxing stroll on Cape May's promenade ("boardwalk"), which is almost two miles long and offers a scenic view of the ocean.  With its many painting locales, Cape May is perfect for a spring workshop!

Mel continues his spring schedule in Montgomery, New York where he will be conducting a one-day, plein air workshop for the Wallkill River School & Art Gallery. The village of Montgomery is located in the beautiful Hudson Valley and has many historic homes, buildings, churches, and farms.  The Wallkill River School & Art Gallery is a non-profit artist's cooperative that runs an art school and fine art gallery. For those whose schedules don't allow time for a three or four-day workshop, this one-day Sunday watercolor workshop  is perfect.  Mel will be having another one-day class in Montgomery at the end of September.

Early June brings Mel to Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin for a five-day, outdoor on location workshop. Beautiful Lac du Flambeau is located in northern Wisconsin and has an amazing 260 lakes, 65 miles of streams, lakes, and rivers, and abundant wildlife.  Dillman's Creative Arts Foundation has been hosting art workshops for 35 years.  Workshops take place at Dillman's Bay Resort...a vacation destination with a full marina, fishing, numerous beaches, and tennis courts.  There is much to do here...from canoeing and kayaking to biking and hiking on the miles of scenic trails.  Three state-of-the-art classrooms offering 24-hour availability overlook White Sand Lake. Dillman's Bay Resort has an atmospere of creativity and relaxation, which make for a great workshop.
