FALL 2012

Here are descriptions of where Mel will be conducting workshops in the fall  of 2012.  For specific information including class availability, class description, registration, tuition, accommodations, etc., please contact the individual workshop organizers listed on the ' 12 Contact Info page.

Mel begins the fall season in Dallas, Texas where he will be conducting a four-day indoor workshop in September for the Southwestern Watercolor Society.  The Dallas Arts District is the largest urban arts district in the country with many galleries and museums.  The Southwestern Watercolor Society, an international organization and one of the largest watercolor societies in the nation, has an active, award-winning membership with many members having attained signature status with the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society.  You don't have to be a member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society to join Mel's class. Registration is  on a first come, first served basis.  In addition to the workshop, Mel will be doing an evening demonstration  and will be the juror for the Society's 2012 exhibition.

Mel will be returning to his homestate in mid-September to conduct a four-day workshop in Island Heights, New Jersey for the Ocean County Artists' Guild.  The town of Island Heights is situated in the middle of a federally registered historic district between Barnegat Bay and the Toms River. The Island Heights Historical District has more than 375 Victorian era structures. Take a relaxing stroll through the lovely streets to view the beautiful Victorian architecture or walk along the picturesque waterfront and along the banks of the Toms River with its large pavilion.  The art facility is part of a beautiful historic Victorian house originally built in 1880.  The Guild is located on a quiet street along the Toms River.  This workshop will consist of three days painting indoors and one day painting outdoors. September is a beautiful time of year in Island Heights when the weather is comfortable and the summer vacationers have returned home.

Mel heads back to Montgomery, New York where he will be conducting a one-day, outdoor on location workshop for the Wallkill River School & Art Gallery.  The village of Montgomery is located in the beautiful Hudson Valley and has many historic homes, buildings, churches, and farms.  The Wallkill River School & Gallery is a non-profit artist's cooperative that runs an art school and fine art gallery. For those whose schedules don't allow time for a three or four-day workshop, this one-day Sunday watercolor workshop  is perfect.  Mel will be having another one-day class in Montgomery in May.

Mel's fall schedule continues when he makes his way back to New England to conduct a five-day, outdoor on location workshop in early October for IS183, Art School of the Berkshires in the quaint village of Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Autumn brings delightfully cool, comfortable weather and with the beginning of October being the time of peak color in Stockbridge, fall foliage abounds with the magnificent colors of reds, yellows, & oranges.  Located in a historic landmark home, Citizens Hall, IS183 is situated in the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts. Stockbridge, described by Norman Rockwell as "the best of America, the best of New England," is a renowned art and cultural center famous for its Tanglewood Music Festival, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Berkshire Botanical Gardens, and the Norman Rockwell Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of original art by the renowned American illustrator. The combination of sunny days with pleasant, cool nights along with great painting subjects makes fall in the Berkshires ideal  for a watercolor workshop.

Mel concludes his 2012 schedule with a four-day, indoor and outdoor workshop in Sugar Loaf, New York in October.  The North East Watercolor Society will be hosting this workshop.  Just one hour north of New York City, the quaint village of Florida is located in the town of Warwick in Orange County.  The North East Watercolor Society was formed as the Orange County Watercolor Society under the inspiration of internationally famous illustrator, teacher, and artist John Pike.  The Society has an annual international juried exhibition and members' show.  You don't have to be a member of the North East Watercolor Society to join Mel's class. Registration is on a first come, first served basis.  In addition to the workshop, Mel will be the Juror of Awards for their 2012 exhibition. October in New York State is a beautiful time of year with peak fall foliage and lots of colors, which make for great painting.
