Mel begins the fall season in Europe where he will be conducting a plein air workshop in September on the beautiful Island of Ischia and the Amalfi Coast, Italy. First arriving in Naples we then travel by ferry to the Island of Ischia. The largest island in the Gulf of Naples, Ischia is located 18 miles from Naples and Capri. Ischia is picture postcard perfect with its Mediterranean-style houses, green fields, flowers, clear blue sky, pure sea, and churches. The climate on the Island of Ischia is one of the mildest and most comfortable. There is wonderful cuisine to enjoy...fresh fish and world-famous wines from the Island's home vineyards. Onto the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, with stops in Positano, Capri, and Ravello. The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places in the world with its unique landscape of coves, fjords, cliffs, and pebble beaches. There are warm, pastel-colored houses with terraces, stone walls, lemon groves, and vineyards. Ideal painting locations abound in this paradise. Flying Colors Art Workshops organizes all of Mel's workshops in Europe and Mexico and, as always, chooses quality, comfortable accommodations. You may contact Flying Colors (see Contact Info. page) for a specific itinerary. Flying Colors is also organizing Mel's workshop in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in February.
Mel concludes his 2011 workshop schedule in San Diego, California in October to conduct a five-day, outdoor on location workshop for the San Diego Watercolor Society. San Diego, located in Southern California, is known for its beauty and its ideal climate. There is abundant scenery including gardens and historic buildings with their unique architecture. The terrain varies from gentle foothills to moun- tains to 70 miles of pristine beaches. Well-known Balboa Park is the largest urban cultural park in the country and is home to 15 museums, numerous art galleries, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. The combination of sunny, comfortable days with temperatures in the mid-70s and great painting subjects make San Diego a perfect place for a watercolor workshop. Though first priority is given to members of the San Diego Watercolor Society regarding workshop registration, non-members are welcome to contact the Society to have their names placed on a waiting list.
