WINTER 2009

Here are descriptions of where Mel will be conducting workshops in the winter of 2009.  For specific information including class availability, class description, registration, tuition, accommodations, etc., please contact the individual workshop organizers listed on the Contact Info page.

Mel will begin 2009 with a five-day indoor workshop in the beginning of February in Dallas, Texas.  He will be teaching at the Artists' Showplace, which is an artist-run gallery of watercolors, oils, and acrylics.  In addition, it houses other art including sculpture, pottery, and photography.  The 1200 sq. ft. gallery has several artists on hand with their working studios so visitors can watch the artists at work.  The Artists' Showplace holds a number of workshops by local and national artists throughout the year.

Mel's winter schedule continues as he makes a return visit to Atlanta, Georgia in March where he will be conducting a five-day, indoor workshop for the Spruill Center for the Arts.  The Spruill Homeplace, the center of a large, working farm in Dunwoody, Georgia dating back to the mid-19th century, and five surrounding acres were donated to the Spruill Center.  Established in 1975, Spruill Center offers a wide range of programs as well as professional artist exhibitions.  Atlanta, a city full of history, has numerous art galleries, museums, historic houses, scenic gardens, and nature trails.

If you were on the waiting list last time, be sure to sign up early for Mel's workshop in beautiful San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.  Mel will be conducting a five-day, plein air workshop in March, which is a great get-away time of year.  Nestled in the mountains in the center of Mexico, San Miguel enjoys spring-like daytime tempera- tures year round.  San Miguel is an artist's paradise with numerous painting locations...Spanish colonial buildings, houses with hand-wrought brass trim and carved wooden doors, and extravagant patios filled with fountains, trees, flowers, and antique carvings.  The centerpiece of the town is the neo-gothic Parroquia church with its striking facade. Wonderful for sightseeing, San Miguel has cobblestone streets lined with historic monuments, ornate churches, and small shops.  San Miguel is a popular retirement spot for both Americans and Canadians so you will find English is spoken widely here.  Flying Colors Art Workshops organizes all of Mel's workshops in Mexico and Europe and, as always, chooses quality, comfortable accommodations. You may contact Flying Colors (see Contact Info. page) for a specific itinerary.  Flying Colors will also be organizing Mel's workshop in the Greek Islands in September.
