Here are brief descriptions of where Mel will be conducting workshops in the winter of 2007. For specific information including class availability, class description, registration, tuition, accommodations, etc., please contact the individual workshop organizers listed on the Contact Info. page.
Mel will begin 2007 with an outdoor on location workshop in January in beautiful Acapulco, Mexico with its many painting locales. Surrounded with flower-filled gardens and situated at the sea, the Hotel Boca Chica has oceanview, air-conditioned rooms with private terraces and a swimming pool. With its magnifi- cent views, the Hotel Boca Chica is uniquely located in that it possesses the only natural swimming cove in Acapulco. It has its own private entrance to Caletilla Beach. Visit their website at www.hotelbocachica.com.
In early February, Mel will be conducting an indoor workshop for the Hilton Head Art League on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Hilton Head Island, located at the southernmost tip of the state directly along the Atlantic Ocean, has twelve miles of sandy white beach and is widely known for its world-class golf facilities. It is also known as an island for the arts. This workshop will consist of three days painting landscapes and two days painting the clothed model.
Back to the mainland to teach an indoor workshop in Island Heights, New Jersey for the Ocean County Artists Guild. The town of Island Heights is situated in the middle of a federally registered historic district between Barnegat Bay and the Toms River. In the spring of 2006, the Guild completed their newly-built art facility, which is part of a beautiful 100-year old historic Victorian house originally built in 1880. The Guild is located on a quiet street along the Toms River.
Mel travels a bit north to Old Lyme, Connecticut to conduct an indoor workshop in early March for the Lyme Art Association. Old Lyme, located on the east bank of the mouth of the Connecticut River where it meets the Long Island Sound, is known for its Colonial and Federal architecture which lines its main streets and country roads. Discovered by the American Impressionists in 1899, Old Lyme has remained a painter's paradise for more than 100 years. The Lyme Art Association Gallery, established in 1914, was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and is situated in the heart of the Historic District of Old Lyme.
Going to a warmer climate in mid-March, Mel will be teaching in Tubac, Arizona. Organized by Los Reyes Gallery and Artists' Workshops, this workshop will take place outdoors on location. March in Tubac should bring beautiful days in the 70s with flowers in full bloom. The Los Reyes Gallery is located in the heart of Tubac's "Old Town," which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located within walking distance of the Santa Cruz River, which with the cottonwoods, create spectacular scenery for painting sites.
