Mel's summertime workshop schedule begins in June with a two-week on location workshop in Languedoc & Provence, France. First spending time in Minerve with its winding stone roads and magnificent views, Mel and students continue on to the enchanting towns of Olonzac, Carcassonne, and San Remy. Countless beautiful painting sites to choose from...hill towns, markets, 17th & 18th century private residences. Flying Colors Art Workshops, which organizes all of Mel's workshops in Europe, as always chooses wonderful accommodations.
In July, Mel returns to conduct an outdoor workshop for IS183 Art School of the Berkshires in the lovely village of Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The Art School of the Berkshires is located in an historic landmark home, Citizens Hall. Stockbridge is situated in the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts. Stockbridge was described by Norman Rockwell as "the best of America, the best of New England." Closeby is the magnificent Berkshire Botanical Gardens and the Chesterwood Estate & Museum, which was the 1920s summer home, studio, and garden of the sculptor Daniel Chester French. Both the Botanical Gardens and Chesterwood have been outdoor painting locales in Mel's prior workshops here.
Mel continues north to Acadia National Park, Maine in August to conduct an outdoor on location workshop for the Acadia Workshop Center. Located in Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island, the Acadia Workshop Center is surrounded by ideal painting sites...rocky coastlines, granite mountains, lakes, ponds, and evergreens. Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the North Atlantic seaboard, and Somes Sound, the only fjord on the East Coast of the United States, are wonderful sites to see. The Island Shuttle Bus provides free, convenient transportation to anywhere on Mount Desert Island.
Mel concludes his summer workshops at the end of August when he heads out west to Whidbey Island, Washington. Organized by the Coupeville Arts Center, Mel will be conducting an outdoor on location workshop. The Arts Center is located in the small town of Coupeville known for its historic waterfront district and wharf. Coupeville is situated in the heart of the beautiful Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve, a 17,000 acre reserve, which encompasses three state parks. There are magnificent views of Ebey's Prarie, Puget Sound, and the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges.
