FALL 2007

Here are brief descriptions of where Mel will be conducting workshops in the fall of 2007. For specific information including class availability, class description, registration, tuition,  accommodations, etc., please contact the individual workshop organizers listed on the Contact Info. page.

Mel begins the fall season on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.  September is an ideal time for an outdoor workshop here because the summer vacationers have returned home.  Martha's Vineyard is a beautiful island located off the coast of Cape Cod, just a 45-minute ferryboat ride from the harbor town of Woods Hole.  Numerous painting locales abound including the colonial picturesque sea- port of Edgartown; Menemsha Harbor with its boathouses, fishing boats, and docks; Edgartown Lighthouse; and Oak Bluffs.  The Vineyard has many great restaurants that offer the best and freshest seafood and other fare.

In October, Mel will be in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he will conduct an indoor  workshop for the La Crosse Society of Arts and Crafts.  La Crosse, which was once the site of an 18th century fur trading post, is surrounded by towering bluffs, the most prominent of which is Grandad's Bluff.  Nearly 600 feet high, this bluff offers magnificent views of La Crosse, the Mississippi River Valley, and three states... Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. The beautiful Riverside Park where three rivers meet is located in La Crosse's Downtown Historic District, which is listed in the National Registry of Historical Places.

Mel concludes his 2007 schedule with a return visit to Middletown, Ohio in mid-November to teach an indoor workshop at the Middletown Fine Arts Center.  Middletown, located in southwestern Ohio, is situated between Cincinnati and Dayton. Founded in 1957 to promote and encourage creative expression through the visual arts,  the Middletown Fine Arts Center, a regional art facility, has a large painting studio, ceramics studio, craft room, black & white darkroom, and a jewelry studio.  The Arts Center sponsors numerous exhibitions annually.  Their newly renovated Exhibit Hall is used for various shows, meetings, and gatherings throughout the year.
